Being a Mobile Notary means working for yourself!
Before the year 2000 when a person wanted to buy a home or refinance their home they contacted their bank or the mortgage company for a loan. After filling mounds of paperwork the homeowner had to drive to the back to the bank to “close” on the loan. Most banks and title companies business hours are very conflicting with potential or existing homeowners work schedule and this was and still is a major inconvenience. Documents where normally notarized in the bank by an employee and two witnesses were present to witness the borrower’s (a homeowner who borrower’s money) signature.
After September 11, 2000 interest rates plummeted, the real estate market became very competitive. In this economy which is now a service industry lenders were forced to offer special incentive to borrowers in order to win business. Around this same time the UCC (Uniform Commercial Code) law was changed allowing notary to serve as witness and notarize documents no longer requiring two witnesses present to notarize mortgage documents. This change allows notaries to now be able to notarize bank documents, wills, car titles etc. for people mobility.
Once you become a mobile notary you now work for yourself and you are responsible to pay our taxes to Uncle Tom instead of you employers paying him for you. The video included in this blog is a brief example of how stressful it can be for lenders and title companies to find a mobile notary. This business is very flexible you obligate your self to perform a closing only if you decide to take it. Fees (money you are paid) for your service are ALWAYS NEGOTIABLE.
I am a full time student and have I am a partner in other businesses in real estate and janitorial service. I love being a mobile notary because I meet great people everyday which always allows me to network and I make my own hours. If that is a goal you have for your self so should consider possibly becoming a mobiles notary.
